In Melbourne, blended-delivery courses for the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety qualification are classroom based. The Blended-Delivery consists of a 5 day workshop + 6 months of online self-paced study – students complete many of the required assessments during the 5 days, and then the remaining assessments are completed at home with continued support from our qualified expert trainers via phone and online messaging.

Cert IV WHS Course units

The Melbourne Cert IV in Work Health and Safety course comprises of 10 units – 5 core units plus 5 elective units. Our Melbourne Certificate IV WHS course combines these individual units into easy to understand workbooks and uses in class activities.


There are no formal prerequisites to undertaking our Melbourne Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety course, however it does require that you have sound language and literacy skills, as well as basic to medium computer and word processing skills.

  • Workplace personnel and workplace documentation, e.g. Policies, Acts, Regulations, Procedures etc.

IMPORTANT: Students will need access to a workplace to complete workplace-based assessments. Where the students does not have access to a workplace, they may complete these assessments using simulated workplace activities included in the course.

Training and Employment Pathways with the Cert IV WHS

The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is suitable for anyone wishing to pursue roles such as safety officer, safety representative, workplace safety contact, workcover assessor. The Cert IV WHS can also be an asset for people working as HR professionals, managers or anyone with significant safety responsibility within their workplace.

This WHS qualification also leads into more advanced education and training opportunities, including Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and University-level education. The core units of the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety are prerequisites for the Diploma of Work Health and Safety qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is offered to any Learner who can provide evidence of competency for the units offered within the qualification. To apply for RPL, simply complete an enrolment form indicating that you would like to apply for full/partial RPL. Once enrolment is confirmed, you will receive a call from your trainer to go through all potential RPL opportunities, before sending through an RPL pack to help with evidence collection. In this way the RPL process is seamless and simple.
